Programs & Workshops

Mary has been compared to Erma Bombeck because of her funny, personal stories about life, raising kids, and living a life that is positive in a world that is sometimes negative. We can learn to turn "negatives into positives" if we learn the habit of starting the day with a positive attitude. Looking for the positives in our daily living can be learned, and Mary would love to teach you how to have a fun-filled, happy life in your relationships with your family as well as your peers and in the work place.

Our mission in life, I believe, is to live a life that makes an IMPACT in our world. We can make a favorable impression, but impressions are changeable. They depend on our attitude at any moment. But making an IMPACT will last a lifetime. I want to help you make an IMPACT in your family and in your world, which will last throughout time.

Mary's mission statement:

"To encourage, inspire and teach compassion, respect & a positive attitude to people of all ages."

The Importance of Attitude in the Aging Process

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify ways we can improve our attitude and discover the importance humor brings to our lives.
  • Understand the importance of a positive attitude and how it affects our overall health.
  • Discuss ways to help those under our care get involved in living life fully.
  • Develop a personalized approach for adding renewed strength and vitality to our lives-not for a day, or a week, but for a lifetime.

SUMMARY OF CONTENT:
We will be looking at ten things we can do on a consistent basis that will improve our daily lives. If we can maintain a positive attitude in a negative world, we will be victorious in whatever we set out to accomplish for our lives. We cannot give to others what we do not possess ourselves, therefore in finding the right path for ourselves; we can then share what we know to be true with others in our care. We will look at things we can do to encourage our elders to get involved wherever they are, whether it is in a "retirement community," or an "assisted living" facility. Being involved is the key to living a happy, fulfilled life. I have personal experiences with the elderly and know first hand the importance of being involved where you are to have a sense of purpose and to be making a difference in your life and the lives of others.

"Aging: Fun & Energetic or Frail & Cranky"

"I Am Convinced we don't grow old and cranky, We have always been cranky, we just grew old!"

Lest you think you aren't aging, think again! You have been aging from the day you were born. The big question is how do you plan to do that?

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

To learn the steps we can take and the things we can do to age well. We can learn to be fun & energetic if we do the things necessary for this to be the outcome. Our attitude is the key. Of course, the opposite of aging well, is to be and act "old and cranky." Who wants that? Not I! We will see that there are "young 80 year olds," and there are "old 40 year olds." Which camp are you in?

SUMMARY OF CONTENT:

Using an acrostic, I discuss the six things we can do to age well:
    O   Overflowing with Gratitude
    L   Leaving a Lasting Legacy
    D   Delightful & Determined
    A   Accomplished, Accountable & Ageless
    G   Genuine, Grateful & Growing
    E   Energetic, Enthusiastic & Enduring

I discuss the words we use and how they make a difference in how we see life, and how to have an attitude that promotes a fun and energetic lifestyle.

I give examples from life's experiences on aging gracefully and the lessons I've learned from observing the elderly. It is a fun and humorous presentation.

You will leave with a renewed sense of being determined to be fun, exciting, and energetic until you take your last breath.

NOTE: This workshop can also be a keynote or breakout session.

"Raising Kids Who Become Your Best Friends."

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

  • We will look at our own lives and see if we are happy with our character traits such as honesty, morality, compassion, and a heart for God and spiritual things. We cannot impart to our children and teens what we do not possess in our own lives. As always, our actions speak louder than mere words.
  • Discover what kids really want from their parents, as well as what they don't like in their parents. These may surprise you.
  • Discover ways we can model the behavior for our children and teens we want them to adopt in their own lives.
  • Discover ways we can have a home that is filled with love, compassion, grace, forgiveness and safety.

SUMMARY OF CONTENT:
We will look at practical things we can do as we are raising our families so they are able to leave home with an adequate sense of who they are. Our responsibility as parents is to raise children who become teens who are able to be independent and self sufficient and able to make wise decisions in their lives. We need to remember we are trying to work ourselves out of a job. When we accomplish this, we will have a relationship that is based on friendship with our adult children. This is every parents dream when their parenting is done: to be a friend with their adult children. It's a great place to be!

NOTE: This workshop can also be a keynote or breakout session.
